Nail Q&A - Blogger Collaboration

Hi!

I am very excited to announce today my first collab, a nail Q&A! I joined last minute by invitation of the talented Zuzia from @zumaluje_blog, and I am so happy about this opportunity! I haven't been posting often because of work and other responsabilities, but this is the perfect motivation to start blogging again. I will link everyone's blog below and let's get started!

Q: What was your first nail polish?

A: I have no clue what colour it was but I am sure that my first nail polish was a Colorama. Colorama was the first brand I collected, I simply loved their wide range of colours and low prices.

What I remember really well is the nail polish that made me the polishaholic I am today: China Glaze Atlantis. I didn't even know what holographic was, I was just mesmerized by the rainbows under the teal jelly base.

Q: Do you remember when your nail art journey begun?

A: I would argue that my nail journey hasn't even begun yet! My first nail art attempt was back in 2012... I watched a video on how to watermarble and decided to give it a go. You can imagine how that ended. Basically, I haven't done a watermable since then.

Creativity is not one of my talents so I am not exactly the best at matching colours and creating designs. I still try though! There are a few designs I did that I am really proud of, like these llama nails!

Q: What is your favourite nail art technique?

A: Stamping, because it is the only technique I can do. Kinda.

Q: What is your favourite nail shape?

A: My dream is to have perfect square nails, but decades of nail biting means my nail matrix is already too damaged and they will never grow like that.

Q: Would you ever wear artificial nails?

A: Yes! Short and square. If I knew how to do gel nails I would absolutely do them.

Q: What is your favourite mainstream brand?

A: That is a really tough question! My favourite brand to collect is OPI, but I am very impressed by China Glaze lately. I think the quality of their polishes has improved in the past year and they are constantly innovating and giving us some of the most original finishes among mainstream brands. I also like Zoya a lot but it is not that easy to find in Europe.

Q: What is your favourite indie brand?

A: Is Masura an indie brand? I am a big fan of their polishes, especially of thier magnetics. I also like ILNP, Cirque and Painted Polish, and I wish I had more KBShimmer in my collection.

Q: What is your favourite nail polish finish?

A: You will think I am boring but it is cremes!

Q: What is your holy grail nail product?

Orly Bodyguard. I wrote a post about it a while ago, here is a link in case you are interested. I had been dealing with peeling nails for more than a year and tried every cuticle oil and nail treatment available. Orly's Bodyguard solved the problem in just a few weeks.

Q: What is your favourite top coat and base coat?

A: They are both from China Glaze: Gotta go! Top Coat and the Strong Adhesion Base Coat.

OPI Nutcracker collection: comparisons

I received a couple requests to compare some of the polishes in OPI's Nutcracker collection to other shades I own. I was very glad to find all of these shades were quite unique to my collection and I wasn't able to find any exact dupes. Let's take a look at them!

OPI "Black to Reality"

OPI Black to Reality dupe comparisons Every Month is Oktoberfest
This was by far the most requested comparison. As you can see "Black to Reality" is not a dupe for the discontinued and now rare "Every month is Oktoberfest". Oktoberfest has a blue base while Black to Reality has a black base. The tone of the shimmer is also different. As you can see, Sally Hansen's "Belle of the Ball" is a good alternative to Oktoberfest; they are not exact dupes but in person the difference is so minimal that I wasn't able to tell them apart. All 3 were opaque in two coats and applied like a dream.

Orly Bodyguard: my new favourite nail care item

Let me tell you a story: I was a nail biter. And a really bad one! I bit my nails since childhood until I was 25 years old and I used to bite them very deep. It took my years to fight his habit and even though my nails have healed, you can still see the damage. My index nail curves a lot only on one side and on my ring nail my nail bed is ridiculously short. I sometimes even feel ashamed of posting swatches on Instagram because I can't stop thinking of all those imperfections that drive me crazy.

Cuticle oil has helped heal my cuticles but the damage to the nail matrix will always be there. Yet there is one product I discovered quite recently that makes my nails look beautiful even with all those imperfections and has helped my nails heal even more. This is Orly Gel FX Bodyguard, a gel overlay that helps protect and strengthen the natural nail. I had severe issues with peeling for years that completely went away when I started using this thing. And the best part is how shiny and healthy it makes your nails look. I would normally feel ashamed of my naked nails and I would NEVER post a photo of them but if I'm wearing this then I don't mind at all.

Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral + Zoya Wendy

When Pantone annouced that their 2019 Color of the Year was "Living Coral", I thought I would have a million nail polishes in that shade. I was planning to show you several options in different finishes until I went through my collection... and I wasn't able to find not even ONE polish that matched it. My corals are either neon or too pink, and as you can see in the picture below, Pantone's color is very orange.

China Glaze Night and Slay - Paint it Black collection

Hi!

I'm wearing another China Glaze polish today. This is Night and Slay from the Paint it Black collection, releseased for Halloween this year.

China Glaze Night and Slay - Paint it Black collection

This is a clear base packed with matte black and holographic glitter. I will be honest with you: if you don't like thick nail polish or textured glitters that require 2+ coats of top coat, this is not for you. It is also quite difficult to remove so I absolutely recommend using a peel off base coat with this one. But for me the final result is so amazing I don't care at all. The holographic glitter makes this very sparkly and the matte black gives it a very edgy look. Think of unicorns and rock and roll in a bottle of nail polish.

Two regular coats will give you 90% coverage. If I were you I would not add a 3rd coat unless you want an instant ticket to polish mountain. Also all the holo sparkle is very distracting and hides any bits of visible nail.

I'm in love with this polish and I love that China Glaze always gives us such original finishes for a mainstream brand. I only picked up this one from this collection but I will probably get a couple more.

China Glaze Who Wonder? - The Grinch collection

Have you seen the collection China glaze released for the holidays? It consists of 8 polishes in different finishes inspired by the new The Grinch movie. And the bottle caps are the cutest! I only picked up one polish from this collection (for now!), a bright glass fleck pink called "Who wonder".

China Glaze Who Wonder - The Grinch Holidays 2018

Two coats are enough for fully opacity. It has a jelly base but it is highly pigmented and it applies very evenly.

As you can see in the close up, there are mosttly bright pink particles as well as a bit of gold that makes this polish very festive. It is the perfect shade for the Holiday season if you want something different from the classic red, gold and green.
